Chalcedony was a significant part of ancient gemstone repertoire, playing an important role in Mesopotamian, Hittite, Egyptian and Greek civilizations. The Romans particularly prized Chalcedony, they used the gems as magic amulets. Continuously mined since Roman times, fine translucent Blue Chalcedony from Turkey remains highly regarded. These gemstones seem to glow mysteriously from within.

Lydia Daum holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has been a professional designer since 2007. She founded Amar&Riley in Chicago in 2016 and is inspired by ancient art, vintage design, and dad jokes. She can play the accordion but can't whistle. She wears her granddad's glasses but looks just like her grandma. In 2019, Lydia's husband Simon, also a SAIC grad, joined the fold. In 2022, they moved their life and life's work to beautiful Bellows Falls, Vermont.
